To become a surface technician, you should fulfill the following requirements:

  • Good compulsory school leaving certificate
  • No contact allergies
  • good powers of observation
  • good physical condition
  • Technical understanding and systematic thinking
  • Safety and environmental awareness

Description

Surface technicians in the field of electroplating refine and embellish (gold plating, silver plating, chrome plating) the surfaces of metallic automotive accessories, metal goods, jewelry and the like by electroplating. In the electroplating process, workpieces are immersed in electroplating baths through which an electric current then flows. In this way, the surfaces of the workpieces are coated and the overall material properties are improved.

They also use a range of testing and measuring equipment to check the electroplating processes and handle tools and equipment such as grinding and polishing machines, hammers, screwdrivers and wrenches. Various oils, paints and anti-corrosion agents are used to finish the workpieces.

Surface technicians work in a team with colleagues, supervisors and various skilled and unskilled workers in the field of metal and plastics processing.

Earnings

Apprentice compensation according to the collective agreement for the iron and metalworking industry:
980,- Euro gross per month in the 1st year of apprenticeship

Working hours

Monday:
6:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. & 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Tuesday - Thursday:
6:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. & 12:30 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.

Every 2nd Friday:
6.00 am - 11.45 am, every 2nd Friday free
